WHAT is the EV Tax Credits

The electric vehicle (EV) tax credit is a federal program intended to make EVs more affordable by reducing their purchase price.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the credit amount can be as much as $7,500, varying based on the vehicle’s battery size and the automaker.

Federal EV Tax Credits Details

The federal EV tax credit amount varies based on the specific model and its battery size.

The credit starts to phase out for manufacturers once they have sold 200,000 qualifying vehicles in the U.S.

As of now, major brands like Tesla and General Motors have already reached this cap, reducing the available credit for their models.

Expert Insight:

“Expanding our electric vehicle infrastructure is crucial for reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable transportation,”

State-Specific Incentives

In addition to the federal tax credit, many states offer their own incentives to promote electric vehicle adoption.

These can include:

Rebates and Incentives:
States like California, New York, and Colorado offer rebates ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 for the purchase of electric vehicles.

EV Tax Credits:
Some states provide additional tax credits that can be claimed on your state tax return.

HOV Lane Access:
Many states allow electric vehicles to use high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes regardless of the number of occupants, helping to reduce commute times.

Emissions Inspection Exemption:
Electric vehicles are often exempt from emissions testing requirements, saving owners money each year.

North Carolina’s Role in EV Adoption

While North Carolina does not currently offer a state-specific EV tax credit, residents can still benefit from several state-level incentives and programs:

Duke Energy EV Charging Station Rebate:
Duke Energy offers rebates for residential customers who install Level 2 EV charging stations at their homes. Qualifying customers can receive a rebate of up to $500.

Emissions Inspection Exemption:
Electric vehicles in North Carolina are exempt from the state’s emissions inspection requirements, saving owners money each year.

HOV Lane Access:
Qualifying electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles can use high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, reducing commute times.

Lesser-Known Benefits

Many websites focus on the primary financial incentives, but there are several other benefits to consider:

Lower Maintenance Costs:
EVs have fewer moving parts than traditional vehicles, leading to lower maintenance and repair costs over their lifetime.

Fuel Savings:
Electricity is cheaper than gasoline, resulting in significant fuel cost savings for EV owners.

Potential Insurance Discounts:
According to industry sources, some insurance companies provide discounts for electric vehicle owners because of the advanced safety features that are commonly found in EVs.

How to Qualify for the Federal EV Tax Credits

To qualify for the federal EV tax credit, you must purchase a new, qualifying electric vehicle.

The credit is claimed on your federal tax return for the year in which you purchased the vehicle.

It’s important to keep all purchase documents and consult with a tax professional to ensure you receive the full benefit.

Dr. Daniel Sperling, a transportation expert at the University of California, Davis, notes:

“The financial incentives and specialized loan programs are crucial for accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. They help overcome the initial cost barrier and make EVs more accessible to a wider audience.”

EV tax credits: Tailored to Middle-Aged Car Buyers

For middle-aged men and women, particularly those dealing with car insurance problems, switching to an electric vehicle can be particularly advantageous.

The potential insurance savings, combined with lower maintenance costs and state incentives, make EVs an attractive option for this demographic.

Why EV Tax Credits Matter More Than Ever

The electric vehicle tax credit, combined with state-specific incentives, makes owning an EV more affordable and appealing than ever.

From substantial federal tax credits to local rebates and perks, there are numerous ways to save money and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Whether you’re concerned about rising fuel costs or looking to reduce your carbon footprint, exploring electric vehicle financing options could be the solution.

So, are you ready to make the switch to an electric vehicle and enjoy both the financial and environmental benefits?

The post EV Tax Credits: What You NEED To Know first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

Currently, Colorado does offer tax credits, rebates, or other incentives to electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid owners or lessees. These incentives aim to encourage the adoption of clean energy transportation options. It’s important to note that these programs and incentives may change over time. Therefore, it’s crucial to stay updated and conduct thorough research or consult a tax specialist before making your purchase to ensure you qualify for any applicable rebates or tax credits.

Are you considering purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) in Colorado? Not only are EVs eco-friendly, but they also come with enticing financial incentives, including tax credits. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with all the essential information you need to know about tax credits for buying an EV in Colorado, along with other incentives that might be available to you.

Is there Tax Credits for New EVs in Colorado?

If you’re planning to buy a new electric vehicle in Colorado, you may be eligible for tax credits. However, there are specific criteria you must meet to qualify. The vehicle must be titled and registered in the state of Colorado, and it should not have been previously titled or registered in the state. For light-duty passenger vehicles purchased between January 1, 2021, and January 1, 2023, the tax credit is $2,500. For purchases made between January 1, 2023, and January 1, 2026, the tax credit reduces to $2,000. Additionally, a tax credit of $1,500 is available for leased light-duty passenger vehicles during the same period.

Is there Tax Credits for Buying Used EVs in Colorado?

Sadly, Colorado does not provide tax credits for used electric vehicle purchases or leases made after January 1, 2017. However, don’t let this deter you from exploring the used EV market, as there are still many affordable and reliable options available.

Is There a Credit Available for Installing Home Charging Stations in Colorado?

While the state of Colorado doesn’t provide direct incentives for installing home charging stations, utility companies may offer credits, rebates, or incentives for homeowners who choose to install a charging station. It’s advisable to reach out to your local utility company to learn about available programs and eligibility criteria. Additionally, Charge Ahead Colorado, a grant-based organization, offers funding for EV charging stations at workplaces and multi-family dwellings. Keep in mind that individual homes are not eligible for this grant.

Is There a Credit for Installing Solar Panels in Colorado?

Although Colorado doesn’t provide tax credits for solar panel installations, there are still ways to make solar panels more affordable. Certain components of solar systems are exempt from the state’s sales taxes, offering upfront savings. Furthermore, the value of a solar system is exempt from property taxes, meaning your home’s value will increase without affecting your property tax evaluations. Additionally, federal incentives for installing solar systems may still be available for Colorado residents.

EV Fees in Colorado

EV owners in Colorado are subject to an annual Plug-in Electric Vehicle Fee of $51.88. Of this fee, $30 goes toward Colorado’s Highway Users Tax Fund, while $20 is designated for the Electric Vehicle Grant Fund. It’s important to be aware of this fee when considering the overall costs of owning an electric vehicle in the state.

Is There Any Other Incentive I Can Get in Colorado for Electric Vehicles?

Aside from the state incentives discussed, Colorado residents purchasing an EV might also qualify for the Federal Electric Car Tax Credit, which can reach up to $7,500. Furthermore, it’s advisable to check with local electric utilities for any additional credits or incentives that they might offer.

Drive Green and Save With Electric Vehicles in Colorado

Colorado presents an array of tax credits and incentives to make the transition to electric vehicles more accessible and attractive for residents. From tax credits for new EV purchases to grants for charging station installations, these incentives contribute to both environmental sustainability and financial savings. Stay informed about the latest updates and consult relevant resources to ensure you take full advantage of the incentives available to you. Embrace the future of transportation and drive towards a greener Colorado with an electric vehicle!

The post Can I Get a Tax Credit for Buying an EV in Colorado? first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

Auto parts retailers across the United States have every reason to raise their glasses in celebration as American drivers are holding onto their cars longer than ever before. A recent report by S&P Global Mobility highlights the combination of low supply and rising prices as the key factors behind this trend. As a result, the average age of vehicles in the U.S. has reached a record high of 12.5 years, marking a three-month increase from the previous year. This significant shift in consumer behavior not only presents challenges for the automotive industry but also offers lucrative opportunities for the aftermarket sector.

Impact of the Pandemic and Supply Chain Disruptions

The COVID-19 pandemic played a pivotal role in reshaping transportation preferences, as people shifted from public transportation to personal vehicles. However, manufacturing shutdowns and limited supply led to a surge in the demand for used cars, driving prices up and leaving many consumers with no choice but to opt for even older models. The ongoing war in Ukraine further exacerbated the situation, disrupting the supply of semiconductors and causing a ripple effect throughout the vehicle supply chain. As a result, the prices of new cars skyrocketed, compelling more Americans to hold onto their current vehicles.

The Changing Landscape of the Automotive Industry

The rise in the average age of vehicles is not solely attributed to consumer choices. S&P Global Mobility’s analysis reveals that passenger cars, including sedans, coupes, wagons, and hatchbacks, have been the primary drivers of the increase in the average used car age. In contrast, light-duty trucks and SUVs have experienced relatively consistent average age growth. Interestingly, despite the overall trend, the introduction of more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) coupled with federal and state tax incentives has helped boost new EV sales. This may lead to an influx of newer vehicles in the coming years, potentially altering the average age trajectory.

Opportunities for the Aftermarket Sector

The aging fleet of vehicles presents significant opportunities for the vehicle service industry. Older vehicles require frequent repair work and maintenance, resulting in increased demand for auto parts and services. The aftermarket sector, closely following the growth of average vehicle age, has witnessed substantial revenue growth. Estimates from the S&P Global Channel Forecast, in collaboration with the Auto Care Association and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, project a notable increase in revenue for the U.S. light-duty aftermarket. This growth is driven by consumers investing more in keeping their aging vehicles running efficiently.

Future Outlook

Despite economic headwinds, S&P Global Mobility forecasts a rebound in new vehicle sales, with projections exceeding 14.5 million units in 2023. This optimistic outlook may help slow down the rate of average age growth in the upcoming year. Moreover, the shift in consumer preferences towards light trucks and utilities presents an additional opportunity for the vehicle service industry. Light trucks, known for higher maintenance costs and longer ownership cycles, contribute to a positive trend for the aftermarket sector.

As more American drivers hold onto their cars for longer periods, the average age of vehicles on U.S. roads has reached unprecedented levels. The interplay of low supply, rising prices, and changes in consumer behavior has reshaped the automotive landscape. While the challenges faced by the industry are significant, this trend has presented a silver lining for auto parts retailers and the aftermarket sector. As the demand for repair work and maintenance surges, the vehicle service industry stands to benefit from this aging fleet of vehicles. Moving forward, the automotive industry and aftermarket sector must adapt to this shifting paradigm to meet the evolving needs of American drivers.

The post Historic Peak: Average Age of US Light Vehicles first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

What tips are we going to talk about in this post?

The pros and cons of buying a new car

What to look for when buying a used car to ensure it’s reliable and safe

How to research and find a reliable used car

The importance of regular car maintenance for both new and used cars

Financing options for new and used cars and how to choose the best one for your budget.

Don’t know whether to buy a new or used car?

You’re not alone! Both options have their pros and cons.

Pros and Cons of Buying a New or Used Car

When you buy a new car, you get the latest technology, as well as the peace of mind that comes with being the first owner. However, new cars are expensive and depreciate rapidly in the first few years.

If you choose a used car, you can save money upfront and often have a lower insurance premium. In addition, if you do your research and find a reliable used car, you might still be able to find a vehicle that lasts for years. The risk of unexpected repair and maintenance costs is always present.

It is ultimately up to you to decide which option is best for you based on your personal preferences and your budget. If you value the latest features and are willing to spend money on them, a new car might be the right choice. It is possible to save money on a great vehicle by doing some research and finding a reliable used car.

If you choose a new or used car, you must maintain it regularly to ensure that it lasts as long as possible and retains its value

Factors to Consider When Choosing Between a New or Used Car

While a new car may have a higher sticker price, it is often covered by a warranty that covers repair costs. The cost of ownership is another factor to consider when choosing between a new and used car.

On the other hand, a used car may require more maintenance and repairs, which can add up over time. However, a well-maintained used car can still be reliable for years to come. You should also consider your financing options. In some cases, financing a new car may come with lower interest rates or incentives, making it more affordable in the long run.

Despite the higher interest rate, financing a used car will likely result in a lower overall payment since the car is of lower value. Check the last updated information about auto incentives and rebates that we also prepared to you here!

It’s also important to consider your financing options. In some cases, financing a new car may come with lower interest rates or incentives, which can make it a more affordable option in the long run. However, financing a used car may come with a higher interest rate, but you’ll likely pay less overall since the car’s value is lower.

Ultimately, the decision to buy a new or used car depends on your personal preferences and financial situation. By considering the pros and cons of each option and doing your research, you can make an informed decision that meets your needs and fits your budget.

In summary, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to buying a car. Weigh the pros and cons of both options, consider your budget and priorities, and make the decision that’s right for you. With the right research and care, your car will serve you well for years to come.

The post How to Decide Between a New or Used Car first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

1. Prepare Yourself

Preparation is key to getting the best price for a new or used car. Before visiting a dealer, find the car that suits your needs and budget, and get preapproved financing. Research on new car rankings and reviews and used car rankings and reviews to confidently focus on the vehicle you want.

2. Information Is Power

Get as much information as possible about the car you want, from its sticker price to the invoice price that the dealer may have paid for it. Check the buying insights on reviews to know the current demand for the vehicle, which helps you identify models that are in high or low demand. Look up customer reviews of car dealerships on sites such as Yelp.com to learn about their reputation.

3. Get Your Financing First

Obtaining a preapproved car loan from an outside lender before heading to the dealer is the best way to get a great financing deal. It saves you confusion and forces the dealership to beat the offer you already have. Large national banks, community banks, and credit unions offer financing outside dealerships, with credit unions providing the best rates.

4. Check Out the Deals

Take advantage of special financing or cash-back incentives to save money. Automakers offer these deals to increase sales when cars don’t sell at the expected pace. Zero-percent financing offers lower the amount of money spent on interest, while cash-back offers effectively lower the price of a new car. Check our new car deals and used car deals pages to discover the best deals each month.

5. Visit the Dealership

In both virtual and in-person visits, you can check the car and work with multiple dealers to get the best deal. Unprepared visits to a dealership or meetings with private sellers can result in overpaying.

6. Be Sure to Pick the Right Time

Some times are better to shop for a car than others. Car dealerships have monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals, and finding one that has yet to reach their goal might offer a fantastic deal. Dealerships get a bonus on all the cars sold in a certain period if they sell a certain number of vehicles, and being the lucky buyer of the last vehicle they need to get the bonus puts you in a great position to get a deal. The last weekend of the month, quarter, or year is the best time to shop.

7. Know Your Trade-In Value

Knowing the value of your trade-in is crucial in negotiating the best car price. Check the value of your current car on websites such as Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book, or NADA Guides. Dealerships will try to offer you the lowest possible price, so being armed with the trade-in value of your car helps you negotiate a fair price.

8. Negotiate Up From the Dealer Cost

Knowing the dealer’s cost of the car is important in negotiating the best car price. Use websites such as Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book to find the invoice price, which is the amount the dealer paid the manufacturer for the car. Negotiate up from this price, starting with a lower offer and gradually increasing until you reach an agreement.

9. Don’t Fall for Pressure Tactics

Dealerships may use pressure tactics such as presenting you with a limited-time offer or warning that someone else is interested in the car. Don’t fall for these tactics; take your time and be willing to walk away if you’re not satisfied with the deal.

10. Don’t Be Fooled by the Monthly Payment

Dealerships sometimes focus on the monthly payment instead of the total cost of the car, which can be misleading. A low monthly payment might mean a longer loan term, which means you will pay more in interest over time. Always focus on the total cost of the car, not just the monthly payment.

The post Top 10 Tips for Negotiating the Best Car Price first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

It’s taken a while—20 months, to be precise—but the average price of a new car is finally below its official sticker price. Prices have been on an upward trend for almost two years, made worse by dealers’ markups that left shoppers feeling exasperated when they tried to buy a car on Saturday. However, according to Kelley Blue Book’s figures, the average buyer paid less than listed in March. The average transaction price (ATP) for a new vehicle decreased by 1.1 percent in March to a still-high $48,008.

The COVID-19 pandemic had created supply-chain problems and boosted demand, causing new-car prices to skyrocket. In 2021 alone, the average new-car price increased by $6,220 compared to 2020, with General Motors reporting an average increase of $3,500 per vehicle in Q1 2021. However, in recent months, the supply of new vehicles has been increasing, and shoppers are regaining some control over what to buy.

New Incentives

Manufacturers are now offering incentives again to attract customers, with Kelley Blue Book reporting that last month’s average incentive discount was $1,516, or 3.2 percent of the transaction. The average price has dropped at Chrysler, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, and Volkswagen dealerships.

Rebecca Rydzewski, research manager of economic and industry insights for Cox Automotive, which owns Kelley Blue Book, explains that the increase in vehicle supply is limiting dealers’ pricing power compared to six months ago.

New Car Prices Could Hit $50,000 Soon

The head of sales for Toyota North America, Jack Hollis, predicts that new-car prices will exceed an average price of $50,000 at some point in 2023. This forecast seems reasonable given December 2022’s ATP of $49,501. By breaking down new-vehicle prices by category, we can see that the average price of luxury vehicles was $65,202 in March, while electric vehicles’ prices have increased slightly to an average of $58,940. The average price for a non-luxury vehicle was $44,182 in March and has been decreasing since January.

The post Car Prices Drop Below Sticker, But $50K Looms first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

How Tesla is Revolutionizing the Car Battery Industry (PDF)

Electric cars have become a staple in the transportation industry, and the demand for them is growing. With that growth comes the demand for electric car batteries. Until recently, most of these batteries have been made in China, putting automakers at risk of supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical tensions. But Tesla is changing the game with its new cylindrical 4680 battery cells, which are set to upend the industry hierarchy.

Electric car batteries have typically been fashioned as flat pouches or rectangular boxes in the name of space efficiency. Cylindrical cells, compared to these, have historically posed challenges due to the wasted space created when they are stacked together. Tesla is now lessening this issue with its new 4680 cylindrical battery cells – which measure 46mm in diameter and 80mm in length – promising up to five times the energy of existing Tesla car batteries.

Besides providing more energy, these new cells are also more affordable to produce. They use a new material that uses aluminum, a relatively plentiful and low-cost metal, as well as fewer raw materials. By using upgraded technology, batteries are made with fewer parts, making them lighter and easier to mass-produce, since they do not have to be tailored to fit different car designs.

The timing for Tesla’s new batteries is opportune. The US President’s Inflation Reduction Act has raised the stakes for electric car makers that use Chinese battery suppliers. The electric car would qualify for subsidies and a sales boost from the thousands of dollars in tax credits for US buyers if it used batteries made at Tesla’s Austin and Nevada plants.

Recently, Tesla has ramped up battery production in the US. In addition to its plan of vertical integration, it has ordered $2.9 billion of battery materials from South Korea’s L&F. That means more affordable batteries and higher margins. It is unfortunate for companies such as Panasonic and LG Energy Solution that have heavily bet on Tesla’s continued use of their battery technology and production lines.

Electric cars had a significant boost in sales volumes globally, and the increased demand for batteries has caused a shortage of manufacturing capacity. However, Tesla’s battery cell production saw more than 1,000 cars completed per week in December and it is currently expanding its Nevada plant to make 100 gigawatt-hours of 4680 cells annually, adequate for 2 million electric cars. As output grows and costs reduce, Tesla’s suppliers face a hardship trying to keep up with their low operating margins below 5%.

Moreover, the ability of Tesla to manufacture its own batteries significantly contributes to its operational resilience. It also permits Tesla to upgrade and modify its models faster, while avoiding supply disruptions. The small group of businesses that dominate the world’s batteries now face the same type of disruption Tesla has brought to the world of electric cars. The future of the industry looks bright, and Tesla is leading the way.

The post How Tesla is Revolutionizing the Car Battery Industry first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

The Uneven Adoption of Electric Cars in the US (PDF)

The rise of electric cars has been a hot topic in the United States for several years now, with policymakers, automakers, and environmentalists alike touting the benefits of EVs over traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. However, the reality is that the adoption and acceptance of electric cars have been uneven across the country. While some states have embraced EVs as the future of transportation, others are still skeptical about their feasibility and practicality.

According to data from the Statista Consumer Insights survey, California is the leading state in the adoption of electric cars. Over 30 percent of respondents in the state consider electric propulsion when buying a car, indicating a high level of acceptance and openness to EVs. California is also home to some of the country’s most generous incentives and policies for electric vehicles, including rebates and tax credits for purchases, HOV lane access, and charging infrastructure.

New York, Maryland, and New Hampshire also have more than 30 percent of respondents keeping EVs in mind when purchasing a car, indicating strong interest in electric propulsion. New York is home to some of the largest EV incentives in the country, including rebates of up to $2,000 for electric car buyers and a goal of deploying 10,000 public charging stations statewide. Maryland also offers tax credits of up to $3,000 for electric vehicle purchases.

However, not all states are embracing electric cars with the same enthusiasm. States like North Dakota, Kentucky, and Alaska showed relatively little interest in adopting EVs as a viable transportation option. Less than 15 percent of respondents in North Dakota and in Kentucky considered electric propulsion when buying a car, indicating a significant gap in acceptance compared to states like California and New York.

Factors influencing the adoption of electric cars

The reasons for these disparities in EV adoption are varied and complex, but they are often linked to factors such as state policies and incentives, consumer attitudes and preferences, and the availability of charging infrastructure. States with generous incentives for EVs and strong policies promoting their adoption tend to have higher rates of acceptance, while states with fewer incentives and less infrastructure often lag behind.

In conclusion, the uneven adoption and acceptance of electric cars across the United States highlight the need for continued efforts to promote and incentivize EVs at the state and federal levels. As electric cars become increasingly affordable and accessible, policymakers and automakers must work together to ensure that all states have the necessary infrastructure, incentives, and policies in place to make EVs a practical and desirable transportation option for all Americans.

The post The Uneven Adoption of Electric Cars in the US first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

Why ‘Normal’ May Be a Long Way off for The Used Car Market (PDF)

It is a well-known fact that all newly manufactured automobiles eventually lose their “new” status once they are sold. While this may seem like a simple observation, it serves as the fundamental cause of the ongoing challenges facing the used vehicle market in the United States, which has become a barometer for the country’s inflation levels.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020, caused automakers to temporarily halt production to prevent the spread of the virus. This unprecedented action led to additional supply chain issues, including a current shortage of semiconductor chips, which has forced factories to cease production for weeks or even months at a time in recent years.

The reduced production of new vehicles has resulted in a scarcity of used models available for purchase by consumers, leading to inventory constraints and record-high prices due to persistent demand. Although it has been three years since the initial plant closures, consumers and the Biden administration should not expect the used vehicle market to return to pre-pandemic levels anytime soon.

Despite a significant decline in used vehicle prices towards the end of last year, inventories remain significantly depleted due to production disruptions, and there has been a surge of consumers buying out leases to avoid skyrocketing car prices and increasing interest rates.

This situation is likely to persist for some time, as the reduced production of new vehicles has created a situation where wholesale and general used values remain high, given the millions of fewer new vehicles that would eventually turn into used ones.

Used Car Prices Are Rising Once Again

As indicated by the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index, which monitors auctioned vehicles sold to dealers, wholesale prices for pre-owned cars have surged by 8.8% this year through mid-March, according to Cox Automotive. The trend is upward, and the index is on track to approach the previous record of 257.7 basis points, which was established at the beginning of 2022. As of mid-March, the index stood at 238.6.

Furthermore, the used vehicle inventory has decreased by 21% compared to last year and by 26% from pre-pandemic levels in 2019, with no expectation of returning to the pre-pandemic level of 38.2 million units until at least 2026. Additionally, a change in leasing has further added to the decrease in production. A significant number of consumers have opted to buy out their leased vehicles rather than trading them in, leading to an increase in the residual values of the vehicles.

Cox Automotive previously forecast a 4.3% decrease in wholesale prices on the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index by the end of 2023 compared to December 2022. However, the company may need to revise this forecast due to the increasing wholesale prices.

As of February, the average listed price of a used vehicle was $26,068, lower than the records set in the previous year but significantly higher than the average of roughly $22,000 reported two years ago. Consumer retail prices generally follow wholesale price changes.

The only solution to the current situation is to increase the production of new vehicles to boost the number of future used models. However, automakers are expected to maintain caution and not overbuild as they have in the past, despite the need for increased production. It is also unlikely that the market will return to pre-pandemic levels due to the current landscape of high prices and decreased production. Automakers have experienced significant profits due to the decreased production, leading to fewer vehicles in the manufacturing process.

The post Why ‘Normal’ May Be a Long Way off for Used Car Market first appeared on Diminished Value Carolina.

It’s true that new and used cars have improved reliability, safety, fuel economy, and technology over the years, but there are still a few used cars you should avoid. When shopping for a used car, it’s important to do your research and avoid models that are known for having issues. While some cars on this list may be cheaper and seem like a good deal, the long-term costs of repairs and maintenance may not be worth it.

While the models on this list may meet your needs, there are also better options out there. Take a test drive to confirm for yourself if any of these models deliver poor fuel economy, lack standard features, or are just plain boring to drive and own. Another factor to consider when buying a used car is safety. Older models may not have the same safety features as newer cars, which could put you and your passengers at risk in the event of an accident. It’s worth investing in a newer model with advanced safety features to ensure your peace of mind while on the road.

Based on responses to online auto surveys, these 119 models have a reputation for significantly poorer reliability than the average. We recommend removing them from your list, especially those with multiple model years mentioned.
