In the last year, shopping for used cars was stressful, as prices were high and selection was scarce. However, tens of millions of people still bought used cars, as it is estimated that more than 36 million were sold last year. Analytical research from iSeeCars identifies the most popular models on the used market each year. It’s interesting to see how the numbers correlate with new vehicle sales, even though it doesn’t offer many revelations.

The most popular new vehicles tend to be the most popular used vehicles as well. Even though Ford lumps many truck models into a single category, it sold more than 650,000 F-Series trucks last year, and the F-150 accounted for 3.3 percent of all used car sales. A total of 2.8 and 2.3 percent of used sales were registered by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500, respectively. The list also includes:

As we all expected, the Ford F-150 was the most popular used car of last year, while Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 took the second and third spots, respectively. Hybrids and EVs are still relatively low on the overall used vehicle sales list; however, their numbers have been increasing as more models join the market each year. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid was the top hybrid with 0.3 percent of the share, followed by the Ford Fusion Hybrid. Tesla showcased its power in used Electric Vehicle sales, where its Model 3 had a 0.4% share of total sales; this was then further cemented by Model Y and Model S.

Looking separately at each state, the Ford F-150 dominated most of them, but the Toyota Tacoma topped Hawaii and the Toyota Corolla topped Florida.
